The Artist - Paul Godard

Yes, it's true that I am an artist, but I am also a scientist. A strange breed... But above all, I am a citizen of the world.

A Belgian journalist once wrote these words about me...

"As an adventurer animated by a profound desire to explore beyond the boundaries of the finite, Paul listens to the silence of the landscape.  The scenery that surrounds him then becomes abstract, inevitably leading to some form of meditation.  Only then does he pick up his camera to seize the essence of what he sees and feels."

Like an artist of the Romantic era...

"Paul captures the beauty of the natural world in his painting-like photographs.  Each image becomes a universe on its own, expressing a daily reflection, a soul search of a restless traveller.

The message is one of purity, serenity and, above all, humility for the natural beauty that surrounds us.

But what is most important to Paul is for his photographs to touch people’s souls in a way that encourages them to awaken to the natural beauty around them and to inspire more conscious recognition of and respect for our planet."

Biography

I was born in Brussels in 1959; there in 1991, I got my PhD in Sciences, focusing on ecology. I also have an MBA.  My passion for nature photography dates back to when I was 12 years old chasing sunsets on my bicycle and grew such that my work has been on solo exhibitions in Brussels, Paris, Moscow, Harare, Cape Town, and Windhoek.

In 1994, I started a 4-year overland expedition from Brussels to Cape Town along the Great Rift Valley through East Africa.  This life-changing journey was made into and features to international magazines as well as a photo-movie Living Your Dream. I have also organised photographic safaris in southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.  My most recent focus is on projects that promote a more sustainable way of living.

I am blessed.  I have 2 wonderful children Enya and James.  I live in Africa, the wildest continent on earth.  I feel very privileged and grateful.  There is so much beauty around us... I meditate, I capture, I share.
