GREAT PLACES TO STAY IN NAMAQUALAND

I have been in Namaqualand several times, in fact almost every years, and I have always enjoyed it.

Here is my best advise to you : go and enjoy it too!

But you must hurry to book because from mid July to mid September is very high season there and many places are already almost fully booked. I have stayed in many of the places below and would definitely recommend them (see my comments below).

• Niewoudtville, Rooidak guesthouse : talk to Hester Nel, she will organise the best accommodation for you in one of the 2 little guest house or the house; the country food prepared by the old granny is amazing at their little restaurant.
• Hondeklip, Visbeen Lodge : I have never been there but Myrtle Wessel sounds like a very nice person on the phone, and very close to nature; I am looking forward to discover that place.
• Kamieskroon hotel, self-catering units & campsite, Maryna & Helmut Khors know a lot about the area and the flowers... this is the favourite place to go, but also the most popular.
• Namaqua Game Lodge, 25 kn south of Springbok : a friend advise me to go there especially with the children, so I am going;
• Goegap nature reserve, guesthouse (only one house with 4 beds) and campsite : I love this small nature reserve just south-east of Springbok near the airstrip.
• Naries Retreat, power house (self-catering family unit), manor house (guest house) & namakwa mountain suites : this is a great place for every budget and if you are going with the children, the power house is perfect.
• Namaqua National Park, Skilpad rest camp & Luiperdskloof guest cottage : I have enjoyed driving and walking through the park several time and I have booked their places for next year... too late for this year! So you must book long in advance, if during the flower season... of course.
• Richtersveld National Park, with only chalets at Sendelingsdrift and several campsites along the Orange river and at the quiver tree valley : this park is my favourite and I have camped alone everywhere alone and with my 2 children Enya & James; I love the purity of the landscape and its amazing flora of succulents; this is also my preferred place for my photographic workshops.
• Richtersveld Community Conservation with Rooiberg guesthouse and several basic campsites within the World Heritage Site : although this is very basic, it is a very good starting point to explore the area; I have camped there and there are plenty of succulents everywhere; my next challenge is to climb the red mountain and meet the half-men trees.
